All 3 teams Win
Clean Sweep across the board for all 3 teams
1st XI vs. New Brighton (Home)
With rain forecast for parts of the afternoon Ormskirk were surprised when New Brighton opted to bat first. Ormskirk got off to their usual start of late when on a bouncy wicket Caunce knocked over 3 quick wickets and Jenkins chipped in with one. A hiatus ensued with Thompson offering some resistance until the introduction of Phill Armstrong who claimed 5 for 38 off 14 to capitalise on Caunce’s opening burst of 3 for 19. New Brighton were eventually shot out for 95.
In reply, Matty Glayzer was dismissed first ball and was followed very shortly afterwards by Kerrigan. Earlier in the season Ormskirk may have panicked in such a situation but Ormskirk’s two form players, Robinson and Johnny Armstrong, quickly set about demoralising the visitors. Robinson in particular changed the momentum of things with a cocktail of withering cuts and ferocious drives. Ormskirk sprinted over the line leaving New Brighton with 1 point to show for their trip to Brook Lane. 25 to the Kirk, well done all.
2nd XI vs. New Brighton (Away)
New Brighton Away- awaiting report
3rd XI vs. Northop Hall
Report by Martin Pickett
The 3rd team produced a confident performance to achieve a much needed win against Northop Hall. Ormskirk batted first on winning the toss and after losing an early wicket Leigh and Pickett had to dig for a while with few opportunities to score on a slow pitch. However, Matthew Leigh showed a return to form and confidence that had been hinted at the previous week with an innings of 86 not out that included a full range of commanding shots. Leigh and Pickett (52) put on a stand of 126 for the 2nd wicket before Ormskirk declared on 151 for 3 after 43 overs. The Ormskirk opening bowlers struck immediately with Daniel Unsworth and Alex Berry taking 3-14 and 3-30 respectively. With good back up spells from Andy Cropper and Eddie Hall, the young Ormskirk attack were far too good for the Northop Hall batsmen. Excellent catches by Unsworth and Quirk contributed to a fine performance in the field that helped dismiss the opposition for 74 with Ormskirk winning comfortably by ** runs. With the improvement over the last three games coinciding with Alex Berry’s dad supplying the players with Jelly Babies the 3rd team have now moved clear of the relegation area.
